View Full Version : Soldering a fitting that has a lip

The smooth part of the brass fitting in the photo goes into a 3/4 inch copper coupling. When I solder the fitting into the coupling should the raised lip on it fit snugly against the end of the coupling? Or should I leave a little gap so the solder can flow past the lip down the side of the fitting?

Make it flush. A properly cleaned and fluxed joint will easily wick the solder into the rest of the joint.

For best results, use LACO brand flux. You will most likely have to go to a plumbing supply house to find it. P-1 Plumbing Licensee holder in a previous lifetime
