Before I made this wooden mallet, the only thing I had to hit my chisels was a simple woodworker hammer so you'll know that I also hit my fingers sometimes because the head of the hammer is too small to be accurate when looking at the cuting end of the chisel instead of the handle.

I decided to make my own wooden mallet. With that, it is easy to hit the handle of the chisel without looking the handle of the chisel.

I was inspired by this old thread http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=5142

Here is my mallet. I made it with some "figured" maple and black walnut. I finished it with tung oil.

I just hope that it will help to prevent injuries to my fingers in the future :D

Hi Scott. I put my mallet in my scale and it weights 15½ oz. Thanks for the comments.

Good looking mallet! You will find that it speaks authoritatively. I made one based on that same thread, am very happy with it.
