for Adam Lambert's upcoming concert in the Toyota Center in Houston.
Prices are as high as $2,700 seat.
Can you believe it?

I can believe it . . . I'm just not gonna pay it. Nothing personal, but unless I'm having dinner and a movie with the artist - $2700 for 2 hours of entertainment borders on "more money than good sense".

Who's Adam Lambert? :)
(yes, i can look it up but that's my point - i have to look it up.)

$2700 is half of what I paid for a "decent" used car not long ago. Aint a chance Im paying that much money for a DAY of entertainment, much less 2 hrs. Not even for Jagger, Sir Paul or someone of that caliber. Just cant reach that far.

Heck, my wife balked at paying $150 for tickets to see one of her favorite performers.

At least they had a name that was familiar to me. Adam Lambert? Is he the original Adam from whom someone might not know someone else?

(yes, i can look it up but that's my point - i have to look it up.)

If it isn't going to make my life any better or richer, why should any of my time be wasted looking him up?

Adam Levine is a Voice judge, Lambert took runner up in American Idol's 8th Season-- pretty sure Lambert's been on Voice, but I'm not sure he's ever been a judge--?

Adam Lambert is very talented, but he's not to my taste & probably wouldn't pay money to see him. For free I might.

I was confusing Adam Lambert with Adam Levine.
I am not familiar Adam Lambert.

From what I've heard of him, he's a very middle of the road pop singer. Nothing much about his music interests me. I think his talent is going to waste. Pretty much another manufactured pop star.

Adam Lambert has an amazing voice that few can equal...and in addition to his solo career post-Idol, he's also the voice for Queen's tours at this point and is satisfying concert-goers at a level that only Freddy Mercury exceeded. No, I wouldn't pay that much for concert tickets for ANY artist, but I'd cheerfully attend and enjoy if someone gifted them to me. :) Those $2700 tickets are also likely some special seating that the average-Joe/Jane isn't about to buy, but every one will likely be sold.

25 years ago, I worked with a guy who worshiped the ground Streisand walked on. Every time she came to town, he and his wife would blow a months pay on tickets, a hotel near the venues etc. I really don't buy concert tickets and don't go to many concerts. 40 plus years ago, I spent $60 a ticket for concert tickets and Elvis died a few weeks before the concert. I have been fortunate enough to see many concerts for free at large public celebrations. There are few "current" artists that I have any desire to see or hear. There are a bunch of now classic tune artists I would like to see. The guys who did the timeless songs every body hums. For instance Procol Harum Whiter Shade of Pale. Such musicians are fast passing on, or losing their voices.

Only one singer I would pay to see....Garth Brooks

I’d love to see him and Queen, just not in exchange for a Sawstop:-).

Indeed, that would be a tough trade... :D

I did see Queen back in the '70's. But it was a huge disappointment. A combination of a very poor venue (old hockey rink) and Freddie Mercury's voice being clearly overworked.

I've only been to 2 concerts that I had to pay for CCR and Robert Zimmerman

I would not exchange a SawStop for a personal introduction to THE Queen. That's crazy money for me.

So is the subject matter in this thread Levine (Maroon 5) or Lambert (Queen)?

"Fifty years ago this summer, 500,000 people attended Woodstock.
The amazing thing is, almost 12,000,000 of them are still alive."

In a similar vein Lee about 3 million served in Vietnam and now over 10 million claim they did. As for concerts they attended, my last one was Roy Orbison over 25 years ago and the tickets were a gift. All concerts by almost all artists are far to expensive these days.

I'm sure one (if not both) put on a Nobel worthy performance.

I also went to an Arlo Guthrie but that was a gift ticket he is a great story teller like his dad was.

I go to quite a few concerts now, probably more in the last 10 years than in the 30 years before that. Most are small venue, standing only alt rock type bands. I think there is more great music being made now than ever before and the internet is largely responsible for that. The record companies & radio DJ's are not longer the deciders of what people get to listen to.

I love the old stuff & still listen to it some, but there is just way too much great new stuff out there to confine myself to the 'oldies'.

I've heard that the music streaming model has basically devalued income royalties to artists from what we used to call "record sales". As a result, most artists make their income primarily from touring and live performances. It does seem like all artists, especially the aging legacy artists, are touring more than ever.

I have another theory that in the information age, live performance is human sensory experience that you just can't get in front of a screen, and maybe there's more demand because of it.

That's a fact. Nothing like a live show where you can get up & move. I love watching music videos & have a 75" TV with a 14 speaker, 2600 W sound system, so I can match the bass & volume of a live show, but it's not the same.

Further to your point, I saw Roger Waters last year. I paid about $100 per ticket and it was worth every penny. The old Pink Floyd shows were always a sensory experience but Waters has taken full advantage of technology to take it to a new level. The sound was better than I've ever heard anywhere. The visuals were amazing. It was really mind blowing, and I would do it again in a heart beat. Sometimes it's worth spending some money on an experience and the memories rather than another piece of physical clutter.

I got drug to the Queens and Adam Lambert concert last night in Phx.
The singing was good, the special effects were great. It was a great light show, and what they can do live on the big screens in the stadium was one of the best I ever saw.
Glad I went and worth it.
Just a note, I did not pay close to $2,000

Paul, count me "very jealous"...'glad you got to experience that concert live!
