A piece of cherry that came from my grand parents house. The wood was cut in april and sat since. Tonight I turned the piece and kept smelling coffee. i camm my mom and ask her to call her mom in new york and ask if they used to put coffee grounds around the tree. Sure enough they did aafter that many years you can still smell it in the wood.

Any one else ever have anything like this happen?

Very nice bowl Chris. Cool story. Funny thing...I've been collecting coffee grounds for the past month and I'm going to try spalting some Ash using coffee grounds and some "secret" ingredients. That would be great if it picked up the smell too!!!

That is a great bowl. I would like to see a shot of the foot or bottom. I am new to turning and looking to learn. Thanks.

Nice bowl Chris, never heard of that ether. When I was a little grunt, living on the farm, before indoor pluming my Grandmother would empty the night pots out around the apple trees. Never had a chance to turn any of the apple wood, but the apples didnt have any unusual smell.
In our area we have quite a bit of coffee bean trees, quite large 18 -20" diam. they just smell like wood.

Nice Cherry! Don't think I've ever turned one that smelled like coffee. I have turned some Pecan and Hackberry that grew in a cow pasture.................definitely DIDN'T smell like coffee!:o
