Greetings fellow turners,

It really has been 10 years since my last post in this forum. Hard to believe. Lots has happened in that time. The most important items are that I've retired from my long time job, I've started turning again, and I've re-joined the local turning community. There are lots of other things in the mix, of course, but those three are the happy things.

I've got several projects started and will be spending much of my current turning time on the Freedom Pen project, presuming it's still alive and well. I have numbers of Slim-Line kits and a variety of domestic wood blanks and some cocobolo stuff already down close and ready to finish us.

Looking for a response from someone in the FPP community!

Fantastic! I LOVE being retired, 13 years now. But, hmm, still don't have much time to play on the lathe...

I don't turn many pens but there are active groups in two clubs I attend. I think they are Pens for Troops - is that the same thing?

Welcome back! Your homing instincts to return to this great woodworking forum are right on. Great bunch of seniors here, as well as those waiting to retire. I was fortunate enough to retire at the age of 55, almost 22 years ago, and let me say that retirement is a great stage of life. HOWEVER, be prepared to be busier than ever, a totally unexpected, but wonderful dilemma to be afflicted with.
I'm not a turner, although I did enjoy it much earlier in life, but with limited space in my workshop I had to decide on more conventional woodworking equipment, so I envy your enjoyment over the lathe. Anxious to see some of your work. Pictures!

The Freedom Pens Project is indeed still operating and shipping custom pens to our Service Members in combat areas. The number of pen turners has decreased but those who remain are committed to making pens as long as we have American Service Members in harms way. Requests for pens are still arriving via email and we do our best to ship them as fast as we can.

Visit our Freedom Pens Forum (https://sawmillcreek.org/forumdisplay.php?17-Freedom-Pens) here at The Creek for more information and to view the list of pen turners for each year.

232,488 pens shipped and still going
