Hello Crowd :)

long time no read! A customer (hairdresser) want me to engrave some combs for her, on the comb it says it's made of carbon. Is that safe to engrave?

Thank you, cheers Andrea

Carbon FIBER maybe? Does it look similar to fiberglass sheet? If so, you can engrave but it usually won't look good, laser melts the glass and leaves voids.

Best I can tell, carbon fiber combs are made much the same way as fiberglass Hoffman boxes, where instead of just woven or stranded 'glass and resin, fiberglass microballoons are mixed in... Seems there's no such thing as carbon fiber microballoons, but I'm sure it can be ground up into near powder and used the same way.

This is for sale on Amazon, no weaving, but the finish is fairly rough so it'll probably laser okay, no voids likely... Might burn easy, Hoffman boxes do so I always tool engrave them since they need paint fill.

I think she was asking if they are safe to engrave like do they contain PVC or other harmful stuff
