Nope, not a one. Interesting thing, I was playing with the gouge and at a certain point I was able to put the gouge at such an angle that this wood became polished! I mean I had to apply some pressure just to get another "bite" in the wood. I sand all my pens to 2000 grit and man I didn't think the finish was needed on this pen. (read there is NO finish on this pen)

next up, bubinga, purple heart, pink ivory.

Yeah...That's one of the nice things about ebony is its polishing nature. I love working with the stuff. Looking forward to the new ones Keith!!!

Keith - You likely burnished it. And that's not a bad thing, unless you want to put a finish on it.

Yep. Keith, if you burnish it and then decide you want a finish, you will more than likely have to sand the burnishing away in order for any finish to penetrate or get a grip. But as you discovered, burnishing in and of itself can be a nice finish.:)

Piny ivory. This stuff machines very well. and finishes so so smooth. Sanded to 2000.

No finish on this one either? Looks great Keith! I bet the patina it develops later will give it lots of character as well. Cool!

John,

Nope, no finish. these hardwoods are nice and oily and polish (burnish) so so nice. Can't wait to make some bubinga and purple heart. Need more pen kits tho. guess I'll buy a 10 pack of each.
