After seeing all the nice confetti lamps everyone has posted I decided I needed to try my hand at it. I found one lamp at Michael's and did my round thing on the lathe.
The only real difference is I decided to top it off with a segmented star made from ash and walnut that I had in my box of segmented box lids. I needed the extra thickness of the lid to accommodate the height of the confetti lamp. Then I cut a groove under the segmented section to provide the illusion of a lid.
The body of the box is some walnut with some sapwood along the top edge that adds to the illusion of a box with a lid.
