I finally got my photo booth set up where my pics look a lot better.
The first time I posted this the pics was awful so this pic gives a lot better view of the piece! tell me what you think of the pics?

It is Box Elder with curl and red flame and a few small sections of burl. This one has a little of everything in it.

The Finish is 5 thick coats of Deft lacquer, wet sanded to 2000 then hand waxed and polished.
its 7" tall and 6" wide

Beautiful Jim! That is one awesome piece of wood and you did it proud. It looks great against the black background. Is the pic ever so slightly out of focus or have my eyes degenerated from the stress of itty bitty stuff?

PS: Just looked at some of the "professional" photos on WoW and they look a tad fuzzy too, so it is my eyes.

Well, I don't know! I thought I liked the 1st first one!:D That really is beautiful. You're very fortunate in being able to lay hands on such wonderful stock and even more fortunate in having the skills to turn it into something that stunning!:D

That is wicked good, Jim.

And might I add, it's a pleasure not to have to squint at the pics anymore!

Yes, indeed, the pics are wonderful and the piece is the reason why they are so nice. You can take a nice picture of an ugly piece but when you have a beautiful piece and take a great picture you get pictures like these. Particularly the 2nd and 3rd pictures are terriific in showing the color and curl. Excellent Jimbo!!!:D

The pictures are better, but still don't do the piece Justice. It looks better in your hands. Still a great looking HF.

Jim, you really got the curl standing out in your new booth. That looks great, but which one is closest to the color. The new one doesn't have as bright of a flame, or does the red flame turn brown over time.

Good Eye Ernie!
Yes it does fade:( I wish it didn't but it does, with all the curl in this piece it will still look good even if the red turns to light brown. there are a few things people are trying to slow down and stop the fading of the red in Box Elder. may have to give those techniques a try.

Jim, what are the techniques you are talking about? I just got a box elder tree that has a little flame in it and might like to try that myself.

Great form and wonderful pc. of wood. If one could develop a cure for fading wood, they would become on over night billionaire.

Jim, I just put you in for a sub contracting job, lets see how this works out. Its on another page.
