I went to my first auction today I picked this file guide, some hand planes, and some other none wood working tools.
Now the file guide I thought it was for a chain saw but turns out it is for hand saws. It is unmarked I am looking to find any info about it. Who made what it is called and most important how to use it.

All I could find is 2 pics off a old auction listing. looks like mine is missing the peace the holds the small end of the file. I should be able to make a replacement peace for that part.
Here are the 2 pics for that one.

I did try to use it but with out the missing peace it did not work very good. I just did the saw freehand not bad for the 2nd time doing a cross cut saw I add a bit of set to the saw still.

I would agree it's likely for chainsaws.

The clamping "receptacle" is round, and the upper guide bars are twice the size of the triangular file shown.

Interesting way to state the quantity, 1/12 dozen.
