Making a drawer front 41" x 3" x 1" and absent mindedly cut it 3" too short,,,,rats. The fix is surprisingly easy, I just glued the offcut back on. Endgrain gluing is surprisingly strong and invisible. I may add something to reinforce it but it really is not needed.

Sometimes I enjoy making corrections. It counteracts my incompetence with a wiff of competence.

Measuring errors is one of my reasons for switching from using tape measures and rulers to using a story stick. No addition or marking the half inch on the wrong side of the inch.

Those of us with a touch of dyslexia can have real problems with measuring devices.

You are not alone.

"What's going on? I cut it twice and it is still too short."

If you have a 1X12 and need a longer 1X6 it is possible to cut the 1X12 diagonally and then reorient the pieces and join them along the diagonal to make a longer piece.

There are other ways of to do this depending on how long you want to make it.

I'll never forget the time I realized that 5'5" and 55" were not interchangable . . . .

Scarf joints are fairly common at all kind of lengths of scarfs.
