Where to purchase bed hardware

I will soon be building a bed for a co-worker, and will be needing hardware. I have some concern in the strength of the hardware, as the co-worker is a large person.

Any recommendations on hardware or where to look would be great.

Just buy "bed bolts" ,nuts, and the special wrench. Avoid all the quick snap together stuff. The wood rails should be 1 and
1/2 inches thick or more.

Rockler has some good options. My father has built a number of beds using this:

Including one that's gone from one side of the country to the other, and taken apart once a year or so for years. I'm about 220 lbs, and it doesn't budge. I suspect the screws will pull out before the hardware breaks, so use good screws.

If you want something extra strong use mortise and tenons to connect the bed rails to the post. Don't glue it, but use a corner bracket with screws to hold the tenon from pulling out.

A few years back my grandson wanted to build a bed... I bought the 5 inch version of these off of someone on here... He never built the bed... If you PM me your mailing address, will send them to you..FREE... it is a set of four... Rocklers are either 4 inch or 6 inch... these are 5 inch x 5/8...

I doubt you own a Festool Domino (or you would likely have said you do), but Domino sells connector hardware using Domino mortises that would be ideal for beds and would be very strong. Plus the bed frame would always be easily disassembled and reassembled when needed.

If you are using bed bolts then tenoning the rails will give you ample strength. If you are going with something else keep in mind that the majority of beds sold in furniture stores are made with hardware that leaves a lot to be desired. If slats will support the box spring give them legs in the center.

The bolts make a really strong bed that will not allow the posts to lean out of plumb. Some posts will crook after turning.
You don't see tall post beds with the
formerly always used hangings any more, but they are what really gives the proper luxurient look. They had warm weather
and cold weather hangings. Summer stuff included gauzy insect netting. We have a friend who bought a magnificent
bed with summer and winter hangings from a fine museum house. New curators usually mean some good stuff will be
sold off!
