I do not think crocodiles are native north of Florida. They are protected so if one is chasing you do not hurt it just run away.

Actually saw an American Crocodile while taking a tour of the glades at Cape Sable. longer skinnier snout than the alligator. At one time American Crocodiles were found as far north as the Carolinas, however, being extremely susceptible to cold, a cold snap often kills them back to tropical waters. From Wikipedia, "In the summer of 2008, an American crocodile was captured in the surf on Isle of Palms, South Carolina (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle_of_Palms,_South_Carolina)." They are believed to be able to swim vast distances across seas, such as from Cuba to Mexico.

Never understood why crocodiles had such a bad rep: they are kind, loving creatures.
