Hi all,

Salvaging this wood from some tables that I picked up for cheap and am wondering what species it is? I always assumed acacia, but have read that could mean a lot of different types fall under that name.

Thanks for the help. Great forum.

Dalbergia Sissoo/ Indian Rosewood/Sissoo Rosewood.
Acacia would be quite light and soft. Sisso will have a weight of between cherry and oak. I have worked with a lot of Sissoo as it grows here in the Tampa area.

Dried acacia does not float in water. As I remember it is fairly hard, some thing. like walnut. Surprising since it is related to peas.

Much appreciated.

Any finishing tips? Would like to make the heartwood and sapwood blend closer in colour, and then was thinking get some pop with oil/shellac/varnish.
