Hello to all my new Sawmill Friends!!
You all have been so kind and helpful in the past, I am hoping you can come through for me again.
I have a very specific request for me to cut out a tree..around the 12 x12 size..larger would even be better. I am wondering where I can find sheets of 1/4" wood that is prefinished that would be large enough. I would love to use alder but can't find it greater than 5 or 6 inches wide. I may end up deciding to do it out of acrylic but am not ready to give up yet. It's supposed to be a tree with 8 apples (for each of this man's 8 kids) and the apples would be engraved. I'm not sure if I should do the apples from colored acrylic, LaserBrass, wood also or what. Any help on design or supplier would be appreciated.
Thanks all!!
Beck

These are all places mentioned in previous posts that I have saved. I can't tell you whether any of them come that big or not, though. I just had a customer that wanted an oak sign and managed to find it 12"x36" 3/4" thick at Home Depot. I'll have to cut and finish it myself, but places like that will cut for you, usually 1st cut free and 25 cents each after that, and finishing is not that hard or expensive if you are inclined to try it.

You might be out of luck anyway, because of holiday backup. Turn around times are getting longer.

Try calling http://www.studioworkshop.com/ he made some for me a year ago or so. But you may have you contend with warp. That a pretty wide thin board. I just got off the phone to verify, 1-800-383-7072 and he said he'd do it (12x18, 12x24), and it's a 2 week turn around, but can be expedited for more dough. And expect warpage. You might have to put a weight on it just before lasering.

Also try http://www.coloradoheirloom.com/ and http://lazerwood.com/

Highly recommended. My last order was like 50 sheets of 12 X 18 and 2 out of the bunch warped. And that is coming from a pretty humidity saturated Minnesota to a average humidity of 18 to 24% Colorado. I was very pleased with the quality of the wood, the glueups, the finish, the service, and teh packaging.
No, I don't work there. Just nice people with nice products.
