I love to make bowls, and I haven't turned any spindles since five years, but I recently decided to make a wood lamp. I drove to the firewood lot 25 miles away and found a few chunks of mesquite that weren't checked very much. I now have a blank that is 5" diameter by 17" long. At the same time, I have been drawing a Goldilocks profile--not too ornate or complicated, not too simple. Drawing attached.
What do you think?
(edit. I know. There's a typo in lamp.)

It a pleasing traditional design. It would look nice turned out of mesquite.

Good basic traditional design. Don't like the plain vertical base and its too small beaded top edge. I think a simple base with
bold square step .Or two. Would be stronger .

Check out Pinterest for additional ideas. The design is nice so give it a turn and see what it looks like.

Maybe 1/2" bead? to match the beads higher up? Stepped base might reduce bulk, which is fine.

enlarged bead around base. About 2 pounds.
