Ran across this article today: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/worlds-weirdest-architectural-feat-building-cathedral-ninth-century-tools-180971909/?utm_source=smithsoniandaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20190417-daily-responsive&spMailingID=39464434&spUserID=ODI5NjM0MzQ5MjYxS0&spJobID=1501537879&spReportId=MTUwMTUzNzg3OQS2

This is some serious Neanderthal work.

Neat!

Another work in progress, open to the public to view and to participate for those so inclined:
Building a 13th Century castle using tools and materials of the time: https://www.guedelon.fr/en/

Dan and James, Thanks for both posts.

I hadn’t heard of this German build, but had watched an excellent series about the French castle build. If I remember correctly, the volunteers in France were staying on site in period huts.

EDIT:
I have been watching this show from their web page, “Les Feux Des Guedelon” series 2 is about French woodworking at the castle build.

An interesting watch for anyone interesting in old methods of woodworking.
