Carbide Inserts

Bought a set of 5 carbide inserts on Amazon. Got a 1/2" bar stock at HD and went to town making some Carbide Tools.
Used some oak I had for the handles. Got the square one done and had the round and diamond ones ready to turn once the glue dries. Threw a chunk of green oak on the lathe and after roughing it out turned the carbides loose on it. That round one is going to get wore out. Can't believe how fast I was able to smooth out the outside and turn the inside. I love it.

The real question, how did you turn the tool handle if you were making a turning tool?

Will ceramic ever be used in wood turning or is it now? For steel machining Carbide was the cat's meow until ceramic popped up with 8 cutting points on a square insert.

I think the advantages of ceramics is their ability to handle heat better. Not really an issue with wood.
