Tis the season, once again....was even a sunny 70+ degrees outside....went to a couple yard sales, the Boss found a few items....then at a Rummage Sale...;)
407827
Spent $2.25 for these two....normal sheet of paper envelope under them, for scale...
407828
Seems to be an older Stanley, square shank, fluted wood handle..price tag says 25 cents
407829
But, it is that $2 Ball Peen Hammer that has my interest...solid brass head has a bunch of lettering stamped in it
407830
Seems there was a local Rail Road area here....before CSX, before ConRail, before Penn Central, and before New York Central...the C.C.C. & St. L. RR Co.

They had a large Roundhouse here in town, with all the shops needed to service the Steam locomotives they ran...maybe this hammer "ran away"?
Has a hole in the ball part...
407831
Not too bad of a start, for the Yard Sale Season?

Now visit one of these sites and get a new handle for it. I have done that and have a good ball peen hammer.
I don't know why, but I do. :)

Steven, I recognize that line. Trying to remember if I grew up in the area of their right-of-way.

You left out House Handle: https://www.househandle.com/products.html#machinist for the ball peen hammers, and https://www.househandle.com/ for their home page.

Steven,

I remember my dad having wooden handled screwdrivers like that. With an nice handle that ball pein hammer could be really nice, and very likely a collector of RR stuff might be happy to have that.

A railroad collector would want the original handle, a bright new handle would lower the value.

Sold that wee hammer to a collector, today....loved the older handle, but was more interested in the logo on the side of the hammer's head....And..he has a lot of items from that railroad and a couple other roads. Also sold a wrench used on the old Traction Line that ran through town...I tend to keep an eye out for such old tools.
