Hello
This is my first post but have been picking up tips from this forum for quite some time. Thanks
I found a used Grizzly G0513X2 on craig’s List. Comes with mobile base, scroll work stabilizer(not attached) and 4 new timber wolf blades.
Asking $950 looks brand new( I know he has had since 2015) says used it once and it has original blade on it. Selling it cause he has a metal shop and ended up never using it and it’s taking up precious shop space. He agreed to $850 for a quick sale. It’s seems too good to be true so I’m slightly concerned. Any advice on what to look for? He says I can run it. I plan to take the tension off and rotate the wheels looking for any resistance or wobble.
Thanks guys

That's a well respected saw in that range. It's $1200 new plus $120 shipping. The mobile base is worth $80 or so and the blades $30 each. So that would roughly be $1520. At $850 that's 56% of a new one, which is a good deal if it truly is in as new condition.

Go run it and watch and listen to it. If it starts, runs, and stops smoothly, with no real vibration it's likely a winner. I wouldn't be concerned if it doesn't cut all that well if it has the stock blade on it; the one on my larger Grizzly was pretty much worthless. Check the tires to make sure they aren't chewed up; they should look nearly new for the condition he says it is. So should the upper and lower guides. Check the table with a straight edge to make sure it's flat. Hopefully there's no rust on the table, but minor rust is easily removed so that's not a show stopper. If all looks good, give him your money and enjoy your new saw.

Thanks John
I’m pretty excited to add a bandsaw to my slowly growing shop. Hopefully it’s the condition he says it is. He actually called me to make sure I bring enough blankets, foam, tarps, straps and old tires (lol). He says there’s not a scratch on it and seems to have enough respect for tools that he wants it to stay in such good shape.. seems like a good sign.
Now all I need is a drill press, jointer and plainer lol

There usually are plenty of 6" jointers to choose from on the used equipment market, if one that size meets your needs. 8" are a lot harder to come by, but diligence will pay off. Drill presses are around, too. If you can't find a stationary planer in a reasonable time period there's no shame in using a 12" portable until you do. Some folks never go any larger. I had a 10" J/P for 25 years and did a lot of nice work with it. So keep looking, there are good used machines out there. Patience is the key, and then pouncing immediately when you find what you are looking for. As one of my friends says "You snooze you lose.".

Do not buy it without hearing it run. Make sure the wheels are in balance and no excessive vibration in the machine. Make sure no cracks in the trunnions under the table. Most everything else can be repaired, but if you get poorly cast wheels it will substantially add to the cost of the machine.

I did!
It was practically brand new.. sounded fine, no vibration, no rust.. seller was a really nice retired airplane mechanic who does crazy metal work videos for YouTube. Used it once to make a fence post. He actually bought 2 pieces of 1 1/2” foam insulation boards for me to transport on. Total find! I’ll try to post pics

Congrats. I bought a used X model under similar circumstances and it has been great.
