Today is a glorious day. The band saw and drill press made it safely. The saw weighs 400 pounds and took two of us to get in the door. The drill press is around 300 and I muscled it in myself. Amy took one look at the bandsaw and said, “wow, that’s a sexy bandsaw.” I agree.

Amy likes tool porn I guess. Is she wife or daughter?

So i guess you're glad the motorcycle issue is resolved ...

Congrats on your new tools.

Judging by the photos, I'd say you're all in on the Milwaukee M12 ecosystem.

Looks Great!! When I first saw photo 1, I thought maybe you were a Milwaukee dealer.

Congrats. I am sure they will serve you well. Don't see too many horizontal band saws these days.;)

How do you plan to keep the rust away with proximity to so much salt air and humidity?

That's the new Apple iSaw. ;-) It turns flat sawn into vertical sawn and vise versa. Surprisingly, rust is not a huge issue. I just spray exposed metal with rust preventative, I haven't even been very brand conscious.

I own a few. My buddy owns as many Dewalt, and we joke about it. For me it was more once you buy one brand, you're kind of in the system.

... And M18. It all started with a pair of M12 drills and a driver because I needed something small, and it grew from there. I live in a stone house, so I have a lot of hammer drills. Even hanging a picture requires drilling into granite.

Nope- my buddy has a deal on a Harley locally and although it's not a springer, it's got great bones and I am likely going to get it and rebuild it into the bike I want, which will look much like this one, but with a saddle seat and black spoke rims, but I want to use this paint scheme-

Congrats on the new tools, Malcolm. I was so focused on the sexy band saw in the foreground that I had to go back and look for the Milwaukee tools after reading the comments on them!

Congrats on the new toys, Malcolm. I'll be interested in your impressions after using them for a bit.

I have the "baby brothers" of both, the Rikon 14" 10-326 and the 12" benchtop version of the variable speed drill press.

I'm happy with my bandsaw, but wish it had that dust collection point below the lower guides. The guides work fine, but it's a bit of a pain cleaning dust off of them. Mine also lacks the larger motor and the foot brake. I haven't really felt the need for more power, but do wish I had a foot brake.

What little I've used the drill press, it's been fine.

Nice saw! That looks like a WHOLE lot more fun than waiting for sun for the solar chargers and wondering how many more months the power will be off!

Ok, so lets see, if the population of Easter Island was ... cypher-mumble-cypher... and they cleared all ... cypher-mumble-cypher... thousand trees in ... cypher-mumble-cypher... years, then that means ... cypher-mumble-cypher... you should have denuded and slabbed all the trees there ... cypher-mumble-cypher... by Tuesday!

Awesome tools. Enjoy.

(I have the 18" Rikon BS, and think you'll be pleased. - FWIW )

Malcolm - nice tools! Congrats. I am curious to hear your thoughts on that bandsaw. I am considering the same one:).

I will post a review, but I have to first wire up 220, which is easy because the panel is on the wall just to the right of those drills. You can faintly see it in the picture. There are two breakers freed up from the downstairs split units that we never use, and a drunk guy took out the compressor unit with his truck. (Gotta love it.) Until I get a larger shop, I'm borrowing that circuit.

My shop vac dust collection isn't going to work too well with that big port, so next up is a small wall-mounted one.

Does that model have the angled port on the side plus one in the bottom of the cabinet like the 18" model? Before I built my shop and put in a cyclone I used a shop vac on my 18" Rikon and it was far better than nothing.

At first I put the hose on the lower port then later found it worked better if I used the angled port. I built a half box (first from cardboard) under the table to direct the airflow across the blade and the angled port got a surprising amount of the dust before it got into the lower cabinet.

I've posted this before so you may have already seen it. With both ports connected to the cyclone I get nothing in the lower cabinet. If you get a lot of spray from beneath the table you might try something like this.

Yes, this one has both ports. Thanks for the tip. I believe I will do that.
