I've been asked to engrave tempered glass (the type that shatters into a zillion tiny pieces if broken) for door panels.

I'm worried that the glass might shatter in the machine or (much worse) be weakened so it shatters later after it has been installed.

I'd appreciated comments from anyone who has tried this.

(A forum search didn't produce any results)

I engrave it regularly using 80% black, 333 dpi with 65% power and 35% speed. I use 3 passes to get a nice frosty image with no micro-fractures. This job usually involves several hundred pieces and they must be flawless.

Thanks Mike

That's good to know.

The panels are fairly small so the customer could have got away with ordinary glass, but he'll be much happier with tempered.

The image I run is a logo about .5" x 1.0". Three passes takes about 35 seconds.
