Got hold of some Hickory, one inexpensive cupped board. Cut some handle blanks, made a V jig to round them with a plane.

Then some lumps of white oak, I drilled the 1 1/8" hole with a forstner bit then cut off the corners, over and over.
Some sanding and then had my large knobs for my large hands.

Took off the temporary handles, added some home made rubber washers to reduce the 'klunk' when the handle drops.

I kept the tail vise handle a little longer as it has more resistance. Tung oil and done...…..No Lathe.

The knobs have a wonderful tactile feel!

It is amazing what can be done with a little imagination and patience.

Looks great to me, and especially better than the galvanized pipe with end caps on one of my vises.

What a great idea. Looks great! I have a couple of old vises that need handles. Thanks for thinking outside the box and sharing that idea!!!

The color on those rubber washers makes them a nice accent. Very resourceful!

Well done! Love the rubber washer idea...I hate the “clunk” on mine. I’ll be using that idea. Thanks for sharing.
