A contractor is doing a gut remodel of a house down the street. I made nice and talked him out of some wide redwood boards. He started keeping his eye open for me. They took out some kind of crappy looking built in's that were painted white. They busted one board and he saw mahogany so he told them to be more careful and saved it for me. It was all 4/4 stuff so when I planed off the paint, I still had 3/4" thick. Go figure. This was done in the '70s he thought.
The kitchen was torn out also. It seems that inside the DC beltway, a 10 year old kitchen is 'dated'. Sheesh!
