My son asked if he could have a sword so I thought we could have some fun making one. He seems to enjoy woodworking so far and I thought he would appreciate a sword he made a little better than a store bought one.

I’m sorry about the pictures. I can’t figure out how to rotate them!

Andrew, that's delightful! I think the last one, where he's holding up his "creation", would be a perfect part of your family's 2019 Christmas Card!

That's a wonderful sight. It is great to see a younger person learn, create, work, and then enjoy the efforts. He is a fine young man.

You will put your eye out kid....!

(how many times have I heard that!!)

A great project and am sure he loved the experience as much as the finished project. But pretty likely you will need to have a sword making party so that all his friends can have one also.

Great fun.

Fun project. Good for you and your son.

I made a pair of lighter weight versions for my youngest about six years ago complete with wooden sheath. This winter, the 16 year old expanded into home-made knife making - sill involved a little wood working. I'd encourage you to look into your county 4H program. Participants build one project per year starting in third grade through their senior year in high school.

Thanks Joe. The scabbards are a great idea. He already is in 4h, we just have to wait until he is a little older to participate in more events. He did a good job on that knife, especially for a 16 year old!
