I just finished this small hollow form and would like to get some comments from all of you about it. Good or bad let me know what you think. The HF is about 4 inches tall and about 1 3/4 inches in diameter. The wall are about 1/4 inch thick except where I left a little extra wood in the bottom for stability. The wood is some Mountain Mahogany that I got at the Utah Symposium last summer.

I like it, I really do. For some reason the notion of soft serve ice cream found it's way into my pointy little head.

Nice HF turning Ron. Like Andy somewhat, but it gives me a hankering for a cream sickle.

That is beautiful wood and beautiful work. I don't think I've heard of Mountain Mahogany. Does it have another name?

Nice work Ron!
Beautiful piece and the wood looks great!
As far as the critique of your piece The only thing that I see the need for is maybe a slightly smaller base. JMO
Keep them HF's rolling in:)

Like Big Mike said, it kinda' reminds me of a ceramic period piece. I like it! Very well executed, IMHO and the finish is right on!:) Great job, Ron!:)

Bill, Haven't thought of cream sickles in years! Ron, when I first saw that -- it looked like it should be 12 inches tall. Guess the illusion makes the piece. Good Work!!!!! :)

That's a beautiful vase Ron. Do you have hollowing tools? I want to try a HF but I need to stop buying stuff for a while. I'm gonna have to make due with what i have for a while lest I make wifey mad. What did you finish it with?

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I to think that the bottom could have been a bit smaller but not to much. I did not turn the bottom smaller because I was worried that the wall thickness was to thin. Mountain Maghogny is a wood that grows at higher elevations in the Rocky Mountains and it is normally a lwo growing shrub with limbs of not more than a couple of inches in diameter. This piece was purchased in Utah and it was about 13 inches in diameter and about 2 1/2 inches thick. It is bueatiful wood to work with because it does not move much and it cuts and finishes very well. The finish on this one is thinned lacquer sealer then buffer on the beall buffing system.
