Can I plane this piece? Stainined side up. It is maple. Dewalt 735 planer. Or will it get crazy when the rollers react to the profiled ends?

redinishing this for someone else. Seems like a couple tiny tiny passes through the planer seems a whole lot easier than hours sanding.

Shouldn't be a problem. Support the piece on the outfeed side so the profile doesn't ride up.

If you are talking about planing the lower pieces in the photo with mitered returns the cross grain cut will probably blow out at the trailing edge unless solidly backed up. Pigmented stain will be hard on steel knives.

There will no cross grain cuts. I realize there are a lot of things going on in the photo, but the top piece in the photo is representative of how the piece will go through the planer. Thanks

This may be one of those cases were an old hand plane like a #6 - 8 will be easier to do the job.

A hand plane blade is easier to sharpen than planer blades.

A good scraper plane might also work.

There is no issue with sendinf the piece through Stain side up. Flip it over and you will have problems.
