First I like to say hi to all, as I am new here. Looks like a great site, and plan on putting some time aside to read all the postings, but the hand work section to at this time is the most interesting. I was given a <st1:city><st1 ="">Stanley</st1> </st1:city>#46 today from one of my neighbors, who just found out what I do for a living. Not sure if it complete or if the wing nuts are replacement pieces. I have located some blades and can’t wait to try it out. The pictures i hope are not to over size, not sure on the format; so if anyone would take the time and tell me the good or the bad of this plane that would be great.
Thanks Bayard

Bayard, welcome to SMC. I'm sure one of the neander's will be along to answer your questions on the #46.

I wish I had a neighbor like yours! :(

Ps, the picture size is perfect on my monitor.

Well, first...welcome!

Bayard, let me also be the first to say you really suck! That is in really nice shape. Your neighbor is a really nice neighbor!

The wingnuts are like the ones I've seen on them before, so I don't know.

Try looking on Patrick's website (Blood & Gore) for more info.

scroll down to the bottom and look for the link covering the #46.

With some irons, it'll be a great plane to use.

Take care, Mike

Mike, it was the first place I stopped, and couldnt make out much from the pictures. The other thing I have noticed about this and some other planes that I have aquired in the past is the odd color of the iron? Seems as if a rust morton solution was applied to these planes? Leaving well the color you see in the pictures. Maybe its what it should be after years of sitting?
Thanks for the welcomes.

Bayard,

The color in the pic seems very saturated, but otherwise it simply looks like an incredibly clean example.

On B&G, there's a #47 right after the #46 listing. If you look carefully, you'll see the same brass wingnuts.

Take care, Mike

Welcome to the creek Bayard...I'm usually somewhat regular in my responses here but have been absent this last while as I've got too much on my plate...and with Christmas approaching?! YIKES!!!

In any event, check out the links below for additional info on your plane. You are indeed lucky to have such generous neighbours.

Here are a few pics of the one I picked up last year...but for substantially more moolah than yours!!!

Sorry the photos aren't the best quality...but I could send you better ones...sometime before next summer...
