View Full Version : Anyone running a machine with an RF tube use one of these to monitor temp?

Saw this while searching Home Depot this morning and thought it was interesting...

Thought it might be a good way to monitor tube temp on those hot summer days, since my shop (garage) is not climate controlled

My 40w LS-900 has heat sink fins running the length of the tube. The cooling fan is on the electronics end, air passes over the length of the tube, exits out the right side. I regularly feel the air flow with my hand just to see how warm it is, and regardless of how I'm using the laser, even cutting full power for minutes at a time, the air is never any warmer than what 'my' fan blows. So the thought of using a thermometer has never occurred to me!

However, it never gets much above 75° in this basement if ever, so there's that ;) -- the tube can only be as cool as the room temp...
