I switched to paper recently against the advice that cloth does not tear as easily as paper. I have yet to tear the paper. Just keep your supplies fresh.

bill, have you found that the belts from IA have a flat enough seam? they quoted me $10 each for cloth backed, Al2O3.

I don't notice the seam with the stroke sander and the edge sander.

The reason I went with paper is for cost and, more importantly in a stroke sander, is to be able to control the belt cupping across the width.
