The man said cylinders!

Am I including the cans of white chili stowed away? The cans are definitely cylinders and they pack a punch!

But, if we're just going with boring IC engines:

My van: 6
Wife's car: 6
Daughter's car: 4
Two mowers, 1 each: 2
Snowthower: 1

Someone else will have to total I don't have enough fingers and toes.

I think the car ac compressors have something like 6 cylinders each. the antilock brake system has a lot. Not sure how fuel pump works I think it is a gear pump.

I read once that the number of cylinders you controlled was some kind of evidence of one's masculinity. I added up 54 at the time but it didn't make me feel a bit different.

Perhaps a better metric is how many animals you take care of. Get out and feed horses and such in the driving rain, ice storm, or burning sun...

What's a snowmobile? :)

Not much use around here where a big snow is more than one inch and is gone the next day. We get snow maybe 2-3 times a winter.

I have seen two snowmobiles over the years. One was in storage, brought from the frozen north by a guy who mistakenly thought it would be useful here. The other was cutting donuts in a street during the ice storm of 1982. Probably hasn't been used since.

Back in the day when I had my first car, I had six cylinders, then I graduated and got a job and I had eight, a new 59 Corvette.

I grew older and had 12, 8 on the car I was driving and four on the motor in my 34 foot sloop.

Then I met the love of my life, sold the boat, and now we have 12, six on my F150, and six on my wife's station wagon.

I am in my second childhood and that Ford Mustang sure looks tempting.

I'm just dreaming, SWMBO would never tolerate it. :)

Heat pump uses one of those spiral thingys. Does that count?

PS: If an engine has a 6" bore and 6" stroke, and the piston is half way down on the power stroke.....how far down in the CYLINDER is it??

Actual question I was asked on a job interview. I passed.

Depends on where you have the timing set, because technically the power stroke would start at ignition, which starts advanced of TDC based on how far advanced the timing is set.

Weird.

I'm trying to decide my next beater car. Currently have a wrx, in not sure what to replace it with.

I really want the RS6 Avante when they bring them here, but u think they'll be too far out of my budget. Was kicking around a used gtr, but I think the upkeep is going to kill me. Seriously considering a CTSV wagon

Close to 200 (and I probably missed some). You could probably double that figure if you counted all the hydraulic cylinders on your equipment list. :)

Counting hydraulic cylinders I'm probably somewhere near 40

Chevy Truck 8
Chrysler PT Cruiser 4
4 Air Compressors = 6
Lawn & Garden Equipment including snow blowers & chainsaws 12
Hydraulic jacks & lifting/pressing equipment 10

Doug

The "CI" originated with Joe Soucheray on his Twin Cities radio show called "Garage Logic". The cylinder index can only include internal combustion cylinders, not hydraulic cylinders or compressor cylinders.

Here is a direct quote from the "Garage Logic" dictionary...

C.I. (Cylinder Index)

"The total number of internal combustion cylinders in your possession. (vehicles, gas powered equipment, marine and aviation all qualify). If it is less than your age, move on to Euphoria. "

I interpret it to exclude air-pistons/pumps and/or graduate cylinders. We're talking combustion power here !!

For those interested in the full https://www.skornorth.com/shows/garage-logic/the-gl-lexicon/ , it is quite humorous. Some of the terms/locations are local references to areas around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, but most are general terms & philosophies of Garage Logic.
