Hello everyone this is my latest piece, "Poseidon's Platter"
it's 14 1/2" D X 4" tall. The center is White Oak the Scalloped edge is segmented Walnut, the Dolphins are also Walnut w/ some sap wood left in for color . It was turned then the scalloped edges were hand carved as were the Dolphins.

Bet some one would have to shell out a lot of clams for that! (Sorry just had to) It is gorgeous. Segmenting normally doesn't do anything to grab my attention, but this is very exceptional. I like turnings that have utility more than just sitting on the shelf. It certainly fits that as well.

Bruce, this may well be the best yet of your artistic endeavors. Great work on the dolphins. I am hopeful that movement in the expanse of white oak does not create structural problems. Restricting movement of a piece that size (10" or so) can be problematic. Perhaps you floated it in some manner though it doesn't appear so.

Thank you John Ken and Bill For your kind words and taking time to comment; John I've made pieces like this before and had good luck but not w/ White Oak both of the woods were very dry and stable and the gluing was done w/ a press, time will tell. I just really like how these two species look together: I'm now working on a base for this project so the Scalloped edge carving can be seen, stay tuned for more soon.
