Renewal by Andersen came in this week to put in some new insert windows in my house. They estimated that the project will take 2 days, but they managed to do it in one. Overall, they did a great job. All of the windows work flawlessly and I no longer feel a cold breeze in front of some of them. No more triple tracks either!

Not all was good tho. I went down stairs to see how they were doing on the basement window only to discover that they were using my miter saw to cut the wood they took out of my pile of studs I plan on using for the basement. I talked with the installation manager for the chicago area and the foreman. The both apologized profusely for what happened and gave the installers a good chewing out for it. But in the end, all is well and I have some good windows.

Now the fun part... Install new stops and trim on all of the windows. Staining will be doubly fun. The trim will be oak, the window is a straight grained pine (quartersawn? I have never seen such straight grains!!), and maple on the grills. It will be fun to make these all match up.

Good night!!

Dan

Hi Dan,
Glad to hear you are happy with the new windows. I am actually in the process of getting Anderson to come out to my house for an estimate. You indicated that the interior of your windows was pine, was that an upgraded option? I was under the impression that their replacement windows were only made out of a recycled plastic/wood fiber material? Can you elaborate for me? Thanks

Very nice, Dan!! I can honestly say that the window replacements we did in the last two years have paid off in comfort. It's far less drafty and the interior tempurature stays more even. While I'm loath to replace the very old windows in the 250 year old portion of our home, too, it may come down to that one of these days. I love the character of the wavy glass, etc., but even with the storms, they just leak air big-time, even with the Lexan covers I now have on the interior, too.

Yes, the wood is an upgrade option on the windows. It is about 10% upcharge on the project. Some of the thinner portions are just laminated with a thin veneer, but the sashes themselves are all wood on the interior.

I can't believe the installers using YOUR mitersaw AND lumber without your permission....Oh well...Nothing surprises me anymore...Glad the new Windows turned out (altho I prefer Mac/Apple):)
