I have been looking at a project that has a lot of inlay work and have been looking at the veritas including string cutter accessories, and at the lee nielson model 71, any recommendations, or am I barking up the wrong trees entirely.

thanking all of you with more experience in this area than I do.

What are you trying to do? On one hand, it might make sense to start with router inlays, but if you're after complex marquetry, might make sense to get intimate with a fretsaw or a scroll saw. I would hold off buying tools until you know what you want to do, then buy those that let you do that, and grow from there. My suggestion would be to start with a few simple router inlays, and grow from there.

Larry Robinson has a great book on inlay. Features lots of illustrations on techniques as well as examples of his work for ideas. Depending on type of inlay you wish to do, I suggest a fret saw, jeweler saw blades, magnifying visor, and a Dremel with router base and downcut spiral bit.
