This may come as a surprise to those of you not living in Las Vegas, but there are more Catholic churches there than casinos. Not surprisingly, some worshipers at Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed.

Since they get chips from so many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to collect the offerings. The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting and then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in.

This is done by the chip monks.

Didn't see it comin' did ya?!?!

I've heard this before, and it may have been 'true' at one time...but if it's true today it'd be a surprise to the Google phone book, which lists 27 Catholic churches and 53 casinos. :)

We have family freinds who live in Vegas. I guess churches in general are very active. When they moved out there, they started going to one Catholic church. That church got so big, they split the parish and they moved to the new parish. Their new parish got so large that they were having 2 masses at the same time, so they split it again. When we were out there in January, there was still standing room only.
