View Full Version : List Of Acronyms - Updated 12/1/05

Joseph N. Myers
12-01-2005, 9:35 PM
Following is a list of woodworking acronyms. Please feel free to post and/or send me a PM with additions, modifications, comments, spelling, etc. I’ll update the list as I receive the comments. (Note: not all acronyms listed are strictly woodworking terms, rather used frequently in wood forums).

If you can’t find the acronym(s) here, www.acronymfinder.com.

Note: Objectionable and subjective language and/or subject matters, i.e., forum member names have been eliminated from this list as they have always generated a lot of controversy when either included/excluded. Anyway, most if not all of the acronyms that are not being included are well know to most users.

There have been 21 items added or modified since last update of 3/15/05 (see items with an *)

Regards, Joe

Thanks for the update, Joseph. You could add EFSTS - European Format Sliding Table Saw, Paul Cresti's very own FLA*.

* Five-letter acronym, not to be confused with TLA, which is three-letter acronym (which could be added to the list, too).

...not to be confused with TLA, which is three-letter acronym (which could be added to the list, too).Or as my GF puts it, "TLAs are FTB."

Vaughn,

Vaughn - EFSTS, FLA and TLA will be added. I had wondered what EFSTS had meant in the past but because of the contents, figured it had to do with table saws - thanks! TLA has bugged me because you can't search on 3 characters, i.e., "jig" in the forum(s). It would be nice to be able to use "*" as in other search engines, i.e., *jig*. According to Aaron, you can use GOOGLE (or something) to search for TLA but I have not had any luck with it.

Lee - if you or somebody else supplies the meaning for GF and FTB, and they meet the TOS, I'll gladly add them to the list. And if GF, I guess I'll also add a double meaning to TLA (three letter acronym & two).

Regards, Joe

P.S., I'll also add TSO as soon as I get the correct definition and IESPELL, the "spell utility" that I use to check for spelling. BTW, as you can guess, iespell goes nuts when used to check "List Of Acronyms".

Lee - if you or somebody else supplies the meaning for GF and FTB, and they meet the TOS, I'll gladly add them to the list."It's a joke, I say, it's a joke, son!!" - Foghorn Leghorn

GF is "GirlFriend" and FTB is "For The Birds".

I've often wondered why we must use, and remember a long list of acronyms, when it only takes a little longer to actually type out the words that everyone understands perfectly.....btimbof

I noticed that you had T/L as truck load. In the business it also means trailer load. As most here will recieve tools shipped to them as a single unit off a truck loaded with many other stops, it might help them to know that on their B/L or BOL(bill of lading) that the extra charge designated as LTL means Less than Trailer Load.

Looks like it is time for another update --- been over a year since the last one. So if anyone has anything they would like added/modified, now is the time to get it in.

Note that there is another thread started yesterday on this "acronym" thing that can be found at:
