View Full Version : Need Advice on Hinges for Blanket Chest

I'm afraid I made the rookie mistake of building the chest before deciding on the hinges.... I was considering using the Rockler torsion hinges, but did not carefully review their specs, and it turns out they only fit a 3/4 inch thick rail, and my chest has a 1 inch thick rail. I tried mortising the back rail of the chest to 3/4 inch so the hinge now fits, but it doesn't look right. I looked at the Brusso stuff, which I've used on small boxes, but didn't see anything that looked like it would work. I've put a fair amount of time into this, and was hoping to find nice hinges. So, I'm in need of suggestions.... The overall dimensions are roughly; 18 inches deep; 36 inches long, and 15 inches high. It has an upper rail that is 1.5 inches wide, and panels below (sorry, I'm not sure how to post pics yet). Ideally I'd like the lid to close softly so we don't lose any grandkid fingers....
Thanks!
Izzy
