This ornament is made of apple with cherry finials. The bulb is hollow turned to about 3/16 inch thick. As each piece is made it is finished with fine ca glue and then finished sanded. all three pieces are glued together and then I use a high gloss spray finish that I get at the hobby store as a final coating. The high gloss makes it real hard to get a picture that does not have a lot of glare in it.

Very nice, Ron. I especially like the icicle.

Did you hollow this because you wanted to? Could? Thought it had to be?

Thats reall pretty. How much does one of these weigh? My wife has some heavy ceramic ornaments and they make the branches hang down. Thats a good reason for hollowing right there. Beautiful job.

thanks for the comments. I hollow the inside of the bulbs to reduce the weight. This one will wiegh only a few ounches, it is less than two inches at the widest pooint and 1/8 inch at the smallest, it is about 9 inches long. I put these on trees all of the time and they barely deflect the branches.

Beautiful Work Ron....Too bad the flash is stealing the show. Your work is nicely intricate though. I swore I'd only make one ornament this year.....hmmm:rolleyes: Maybe some more is in order.

I like to make this type of ornament, but with the high gloss finish that I put on them it is hard to get a good picture of them. Everyone seems to like the ones that have the higher gloss fininsh on them. These are real fragile becasue of the way I make the finial on them so once in a while I have one break on me after I finish them so I get a reminder of how to handle them at times.

That's sweet! Is the bulb cut for the decorations on it or are they drawn on with something?

Nice work! :D

You know...That might be a great idea for the Summer or Fall!! Maybe donate the entries to an orphanage or something like that in time for the holidays. Nice Idea Jeremiah!

Thanks John. Thinking about ornaments, trying to find a gift for a good friend of mine. Myabe she would like one of them birdhouse ones. Walnut top, spalted maple birdhouse, and ebony peg.
