I swore off pens years ago...but I guess I'm hooked again. :o It's nice to be able to finish something that you can measure in minutes instead of days. Pics are some of what I've done since starting again. The key rings are leftover from the 'old days'...kit parts have been in the cabinet since prolly 1994 so I figured I'd use 'em up. :)

These are the Craft Supplies Gentleman's rollerball kit. Much too big and bulky IMO, and the last ones I'll do...but they'll make good gifts. :D I have some Jr. Statesman II on the way that I think I'll be happier with since they're considerably smaller. I did a couple with dyed box edler, but most of these are figured mesquite. The figure doesn't show very well in the pics, but it's very good mistletoe...almost to the point of being 'intense'.

The are the Penn State comfort grip, which I've turned without the comfort grip. I didn't know you could buy this pen without the comfort grip option. :o

After a bit of experimenting, this finishing schedule has produced results I'm happy with...I sand with 150g, then 320. After 320, I wipe on medium Klingspor CA, then 'wet sand' quickly with the used 320. I repeat this with 400G and CA, then again with 800G and CA. After that I 'sand' with 1000 and 1500 which polishes it up pretty well. I then spray on a coat of DEFT gloss, turning the blank by hand (still on the lathe obviously)...seems to be less 'mottled' than spraying when spinning. After 10 or 15 minutes I use 0000 steel wool while spinning, and then with the grain while stooped. Then I shoot another coat of DEFT, let it sit a bit longer and repeat the steel wool. Then I use the HUT PPP stick to 'smooth' it out.
