Congrats on the new tool John Hart. Nobody deserves it more and nobody probably could put it to better use. I was reading an article in an old American Woodturners mag that my sis sent me and it was talking about making your own tools. It goes into this very long drawn out process that included heating the files or screwdrivers up in a charcoal grill and letting cool and this and that and more of this and that. Do you do all that heating and cooling and all when you make tools?

No...I've thought about heating, the advantages of water or oil quenching and whatnot...but never got into those aspects so far. Kinda new at this so, for now, I've just been trying to find that "perfect shape" along with weight and balance and stuff. I'm sure that as I get better at it, I'll add those finer aspects. My own slow moving (sometimes disasterous) learning curve. ;)
