I just purchased a brand new ECE 701 for $30.00 (gloat) and also bought this plane along with a Japanese plane hammer another $30.00. Can anyone identify make, type of steel use? Thanks. 396314

Bumping. I don't have a smoothing place and am wondering if this might be one. Here's a closer shot of the back of the iron. 396676

Looks like the same attachment . . . as far as I can tell that's similar to one I recently picked up, but I'm still waiting for the body to acclimatize before I do any setting up and testing. Can you get a pic of front and back of just the iron?

Aaah, nope sorry, none of mine are from the same maker. But I will see what I can scare up.

What my friend came back with after I showed the picture you took: It is written as 風雲児 "fuunji". I do not know the maker however.

Not completely helpful, but it's at least a bit more information than you had before.

Thanks! knowing nothing about Japanese planes, do you have a guess about the plane's intended function.

looks like a typical Japanese smoother. Not too sure of the quality though.

I did track down a listing on Yahoo with the same blade. Very bottom right.
