Well here is more pic of that is going on with the curly maple. I'm making a shtender for a friend and here is how it is coming along. Although I dunno why I used biscuts when I could have just glued up the boards, seems I didn't lay out my biscuts quite right. Oh well a little chiseling and make some plugs. Anyway here are the pics. I outlined the biscuts to show.

keith, on an edge grain glue-up the glue is stronger than the wood, there is no reason for any mechanical joint??????????? pretty maple by the way:) tod

Yeah I mostly use them for alignment of boards. I usually lay then out better. but this time I botched it.

Jim,

It's a "portable" podium for a Jewish Rabbi.

... for a Jewish Rabbi.
Keith

Is there any other kind?

Well sure, since Rabbi means basically teacher, I would think there are many. :)

Keith...how about edgebanding it with figured veneer? And yes, Rabbi literally means "teacher".

Jim,

Thought about it but I think I'll just rout then 1/8" and fill with some of the scrap.

hi keith
what about extending your idea of routing a groove to cover up the biscut to extend the whole length of the arc? It would look intentional. maybe you could use a contrasting wood like cherry or something a little darker?

just a thought

I was going to suggest the same thing as Lou. I would just inlay a band top to bottom and call it a feature. I think if you patch it, it will look like a patch.

Lou/Matt,

I was thinking that yesterday as I was wittling the biscut joint clear. Good idea I may go with that.

I am a little disappointed no one commented on my embedded pun however. It's a bad pun but I figured someone would catch that right away. :)

Ok well here is the fix. I cut some 1/4" strips from the left over scrap from making this. And till the glue dries my Shtender has ears. LOL. It took a while to find which piece went where and match color and grain I'll post finished pics tonight or tomorrow.
