Hey guys. I'm trying to identify the veneer shown in the pictures (shown dry and wet). For context, the wood is from a piano built in 1905 in Baltimore. I've tried comparing it to pictures on a few websites, and my best guess is Sapele. What do you think?

Thanks,
Cory

That looks like a curly piece of walnut to me. What does the rest of the piano look like?

That shot looks like figured walnut to me too.

Rest of the piano looks like the same thing, but it’s currently covered with very dark shellac. Will strip it in the near future and plan to refinish with clear lacquer.

Thanks for your help.
