Good example of why they claim English is so hard for foreign speakers to learn.

"I before E, except after C" failed miserably in Jim's example!

My understanding is that English is the world's second hardest language to learn.

There's likely sufficient scientific evidence by those proficient in the area of bioscience efficiency that shows a conscientious deficiency of foreigners to learn 'I before E' -- At least that's what the concierge told me while eating a juicier orange than me at the hacienda...

(that took awhile) ;)

Science disproved the "I before E except after C" thing centuries ago.

Back in the days before computers I paid a friend to type a college research paper on her IBM Selectric. Thankfully she not only typed the paper but corrected all my spelling mistakes. After returning the paper said she wasn't sure I would graduate college. I used the word "protein" about 200 times and misspelled it every time. All I could plead was the "i before e" rule, don't think I've ever misspelled protein since that day.:)
