Creeker's Past Week's Accomplishments

Greetings Everyone,
This past week was totally work related except for a Creeker Visit with Jim Becker and family while I was in Philadelphia. The LOML and I took a train to go visit Jim and family. We enjoyed a meal together and then it was off to his home and shop. We visited in their home for a few hours as well as Jim and I talking woodworking in his shop while I drooled all over his CNC setup. What an awesome family that we call "friends".
This past week was a disaster recovery exercise for one of our customers. It was 144 hours long and we were successful in every aspect for our customer. Now it's off to fly back home and back to the daily grind tomorrow.

Dennis, it was indeed a pleasure spending time with you and your better half on Saturday afternoon! Now...get some sleep, dude!!!

I had a relatively quiet week and weekend. I did finish up a very nice English Brown Oak hall table (https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?268449-Project-English-Brown-Oak-Hall-Table) and also completed a small repeat job for a photographer customer who needed more photo panels for customer orders. 'Started to mow the lawn on Sunday afternoon, but was thwarted by a major cut in one rear tire on the ZTR...'have to deal with that in a few minutes. This week will be some shop cleanup and organization, business marketing and some office cleaning.

Oh, on Sunday, I started to cut the grass and discovered that one rear tire on my SCAG ZTR was completely flat. A little "diagnosis" found that there was a nearly inch long split in the tread. Maybe I hit something and maybe it was just dry rot since the unit was purchased in 2007. Hedging that the other tire is also marginal and my eyes supported that, I ordered a set from Amazon...'tried to buy them from the local place first, but they wanted nearly THREE times what the out the door price from an online SCAG parts dealer selling via Amazon wanted. And that price I'm paying was $200 so do the math relative to what trying to support local was looking like. The new parts will be here between Thursday and Monday.

I had an enjoyable visit from Creeker Walter Mooney yesterday, passing through the area. Walter didn't seem to mind my shop was in a mess - in the middle of unpacking the tubs from a couple of turning demos from a few weeks ago. We had an excellent time talking turning and wood, and he brought me some Mesquite! In spite of dire warnings from his wife he left with some turning blanks, wood that doesn't grow in Texas. Got to socialized with the llamas and alpacas too. Good clean fun!

No traveling nor any Creeker guests coming around for me. I did help out a friend replace a switch in his house, does that count?

Anyway, I started cutting the parts for some presents for this Christmas. And I cleaned up a clothes line pole in preparation to put it in.

Then I had to start cleaning up because my fiancée is coming back for the rest of the year. She will be home on Friday, and since I have been slacking for the last couple of weeks, I have to get a head start. No, it is not that bad, but I have to get to the areas of the house that I am not normally in. Kitchen, living room, extra bedrooms, extra bathroom... (Just kidding about the kitchen.)

The wife has been in Arizona for the last 2 weeks, so I have been taking care of our home and watching a neighbor's home as they are out of town too. For the first time in a while, I began milling some wood, red oak, for the smaller of two end tables my wife requested. It was nice to get back into the shop with a mission!

Put new arbor bearings into my Powermatic 64A table saw.

Next time I need to do a repair to that machine (or possibly any PM machine), I will dispense with the owner's manual drawings and parts list – whose many errors were more hindrance than help – and throw those documents into the trash, where they belong.
