Retrofitting an existing range hood for ADA compliance

One of my longstanding friends (50+ years) and client, purchased a new condo, and had it redone to fit his now-wheelchair bound life.
One of his vexations is his range hood, a "Best" encased in a custom hood. The unit won't run.
I'm not an electrician, and, even though there is no motor spares for this thing, I'll try and jury rig something.
However, he cannot reach the controls in the top of the hood, inside the overhang, even once I get it running.
Has anyone any idea how to retrofit a remote or accessible on/off switch for both the light and the fan?

There are remote control range hoods available. Google is your friend!

If you can get it running, perhaps you can change the on-off switch to a pull chain?

I would be surprised if someone does not make a Bluetooth range hood now.

If it is plugged in for power inside the cabinet above you could use a remote control outlet and leave the switches on all lthe time.

Most venting fan motors are induction type motors:

This type of motor can be blocked without the motor overheating. The bearings get sticky with time. The motors are easy to disassemble and clean. Have done this to many of them in my previous occupations and at home.

I would mount a motor on the roof, out of earshot, and run wires down to a smart outlet.
PS they make bluetooth and web enabled stoves, fridges, and water heaters.
