Maple features/marks?

Working with Maple for the first time and I've found these strange `marks` in the wood several times. What are these?

Look up "worm track". It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

Sometimes people call them sugar streaks but they are worm tracks, from the larvae of a specific fly. The larvae leave a tunnel as they burrow down to the ground but it is in the live part of the tree and it heals leaving the streaks.
