How many have seen this plane. I was just in my shop and saw mine. I haven't used it in a while, but its back on my bench and will be used soon. I went to a wood working tool store after a Houston Woodworking Club meeting and after the meeting I stopped at a tool store and it came home with me. It is a delight to use.

How did you ever fit a whole tool store in your car. :D

My wife would make me take it back.

Well, you know, "The difference in a man and a boy is the price of his toys."

Lowell, 10 years ago I found this one on eBay ..

As you can imagine, it wasn't going for much, and I got it really cheaply.

I began to restore it and ordered a few parts from LN, but they did not fit. One of the rods was welded in with rust and, after discussion with Thomas LN, sent it to him. It turned out that this was the first skew block plane LN made, and a slightly different size to the current version (hence why the parts did not fit).

New side, new W1 (not O1 or A2) blade as per the original, and added nicker ...

New fence with Tasmanian Blackwood subfence ...

A couple of years later, David Eckert (who then ran LN Australia) made me a gift of a new knob ...

With memories and links with some great people, a plane like this gets to be rather special.

I have the Lee Valley version. Both are very nice tools.

I bet Woodcraft Houston has one.

It's been years since I visited their store, I will do so soon.

Fred, I have the L and R Veritas versions as well. They are better planes in all aspects (ergonomics, adjusting, blade holding) but one - the LN has history. I use the Veritas, and the LN keeps me company. The LN is based on the Stanley, but far better, which I had many years ago. The LN is overall a good performer. It just takes a little more time than the Veritas to set up.
