I should have had this one done a few weeks ago for Halloween. The voids remind me of an alien skull! The rim was textured with a woodburning pen. Finished with a light coat of Watco then waxed.

Quite an interesting turning Travis, its getting harder and harder for one to tell if you have any flat areas in the form.;) I really think it's a fascinating piece. Interesting, if you would try interior lighting of the same, with just enough light to show the peace. I think it would make quite the photo.
Just a thought, a stunning piece.

Gorgeous hunk of wood, well turned and photographed. I think the burning on the rim really goes well with the darker natural parts of the voids. Very nice.

Travis, the internally lit picture is just lovely but so are all the others. You continue to raise the bar for yourself and us. The texturing/burning really complement the natural dark areas in the wood. Excellent!:D

That is a nice one Travis. With voids like that, the inside must have to be sanded pretty good. What do you use to do that?

What are the dimensions?

Great looking HF.

Ernie, it's 6" tall by 7" across. I just spent a lot of time with the finishing cuts inside. Made sure I kept a good burr on the teardrop scraper and took really light cuts.

Travis....an extraordinary piece! With the inner lighting it has become an Jack-o-lantern mantis head! Beautifully done!
