Flag Case Plans

Hi all. I'm looking for plans for a flag case for a standard military burial flag. (I think they're 5.5' x 9') I know there are many, but am looking for many ideas to consider so any guidance would be much appreciated.

Scott can't help you with the plans. I am looking for plans to do something similar. It is a sqaure box with three triangles in it. One tri for my dads medals, one for his strips and one for the flag he got when he was discharged. I want to put them all together. Also need to make one for my wifes dad. They were in WWII together. Thats how I met her. If you happen to find some plans for one like that let me know. Thanks.

Bernie - I've run across some triangular cases that sit atop a rectangle, but nothing like what you've described. If I do, I'll let you know.

I have made a few of these cases, first for my father, and then to sell at a local flag store.

I received the plans from another forum, and would be happy to share them with you. They are CAD drawings, if you have the ability to use that file type (I didn't, but had a friend print them off for me).

The plans call for 22 1/2 degree angles on the bottom, and 45 degree angles at the top, giving you face grain on all sides. It also calls for a detachable front section at the bottom, attached with pocket hole screws. This enables you to replace the glass, should it ever be broken.

I've made a couple of these over the years, although I don't have any plans. I seem to remember the upper legs were in the 18" range. The most difficult part of this project is cutting the long miters on the bottom joints. I built a jig to hold the pieces at 45 degrees in the miter saw, with the saw set at 22 1/2 degrees. You can't hand hold this cut safely, so be sure to clamp the workpeice to the 45 degree bracket, which is clamped to the miter saw. Here's a photo.

I put a recessed plywood back on it that is held on with screws.

If you have a vinyl sign maker in your area, you can have text printed in reverse to place on the inside of the glass. I did my father-in-law's this way. Had his name, branch of service and the years he served.

I recently made a couple of flag boxes.
One for my dad, one for a friends brother that was killed in Iraq recently.
Here is a picture of one of them.
The plans for this was on someones site, I just can't remember where.
